In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.
When I first tried being active in this fandom, I gave reccing a try. My goal was to recc maybe once every two weeks. Reccing was harder than I expected. So, this will hopefully be my first is recc in a long list of recc. These fics are all stories that made me feel..a lot. I'm not one to be outwardly emotional but these stories made me laugh out loud, tear up and squee out loud. So here they are.
Characters: Eileen Prince Snape, Severus Snape
Warnings: (highlight for spoilers) *brief mention of abuse (no detail)*
Summary: Eileen Snape has sent young Severus to his room for the night. (summary by podficcer)
Why this is a good read: I've only started listening to podfics this past year, and this one is by far one of my favourites. There is so much emotion packed into those two minutes. It's simply ridiculous. I teared up listening to this story. If you give this podfic a chance (which you should), pay attention to the covert (it's lovely and quite fitting) and to the use of music in the podfic (its spot on).
Title: The Boy Who Died A Lot
Pairings: Harry/Severus, Canonical Harry/Cho & Harry/Ginny; blink-and-you’ll-miss-it references to past Snape/Regulus and Snape/Lucius
Length: ~ 72k
Warnings: (highlight for spoilers) *Repeated major character death (don’t worry, it doesn’t stick!), bucketloads of dark humour, chan (one kiss at 15, sexual awareness from Snape’s part ~age 15/16 onwards, but no actual underage sex), angst with the odd touch of horror, brief attempted non-con (not in Snarry pairing), suicidal ideation and attempt, moral greyness and flawed characters, wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey. Oh, and a decidedly happy ending. ;)*
Summary: Harry’s always been known as The Boy Who Lived. Only Severus knows that this is a lie. (Or: a portrait of Severus Snape, in seven acts.)
Why this is a good read: One of my favourite entry of this year Snarry BB! If you are not a Snarry fan, please please please give this story a try. This fic is hilarious, like roll on the floor laughing hilarious but it's not a crack!fic. I'm actually not reccomending this story based on the relationship between Severus and Harry, I'm recommending it because of Severus. Severus runs this show.
Length: 5760 words
Warnings: (highlight for spoilers) *UST*
Summary: On a mission from his mother, Draco braves the bastion of H.P. Millinery and finds that Harry Potter is not the brash, aggravating youth from his past.
Why this is a good read: This story is based on one fo my prompts. I gleed so much while reading. I couldn't contain my excitement, I was bouncing on my seat. I can't properly express how much joy this story brought me. There's lots of banter and a confident Harry. It's just such a beautiful and colourful world that's found in this story.
